38th Biennial
Convention
Sigma Gamma Epsilon
October 11-13,
2002
Cedar City, UT
Enroute to our
field trip in Zion National Park. This is one happy group!
Participants examine
slicken-lines on an exposed expression of the Hurricane Fault,
near La Verkin, UT.
A group photo
from our orientation stop. The day was beautiful, the company
fine, and the geology, World Class. This is the La Verkin Overlook
on the upthrown side of the Hurricane Fault.
The group stops
to "rest" in the town of Springdale, UT.
Enjoying the view.
More of the group
soaking in the sights at the Canyon Overlook.
The site of this
group shot was the Overlook Trail, on the east side of Zion National
Park. The contact between the Navajo Sandstone Formation and the
overlying Temple Cap Formation (above the red stain) is visible
at the top of the photograph.
This is the view
that greeted the group at the Overlook.
A stop along the
trail for a photo-op. The canyon in the background is a slot called
Pine Creek. The canyon begins about one foot from where the group
is standing/seated.
A small group shot at
our lunch site, the Checkerboard Mesa parking area. Another nice
view of the Navajo Sandstone-Temple Cap contact.
At the banquet that evening,
the SUU's Great Hall, Chapter reports were offered. The Convention
was a great opportunity for SGE delegates to meet and get ideas
from one another. Thanks to Betty Bellis, Charlie Mankin, and
Don Neal for their organization.
