Meeting Notes:

9/20/2008

The parade was exciting and eventful (sort of).  We would like to thank all ten riders who were able to ride in the parade this year.  We traveled behind the FEMS club and had a good time revving the engines and riding slow.  I'm glad that we didn't get canceled like last years parade.  I hope that SUU wins the game tonight.  Go T-Birds!

9/16/2008

We discussed the parade rules for the following weekend.  We talked about riding safely and made some rides for the weekend.  We talked about a club waiver again and hope to get one done this month.  We are looking forward to a grand parade and a grand victory for SUU.

8/21/2008 and 8/26/2008

The Club Fair was held on the business quad both days in the evening.  Some members brought their bikes to display.  We signed up a bunch of people who were interested in the club.  The weather was great and lots of clubs showed their smiling faces.  Pizza was offered to those who collected tickets from clubs.  The slices were small and disappeared quickly.  Hopefully we will have some great involvement this semester.

4/28/2008

Four of us took a street ride and then met up with the club members at 5 Buck Pizza.  We talked about our club officers for fall 2008: President-Colin Clark, Vice President-Daniel Strange, and Treasurer Scott Flake.  Next semester we will need to quickly organize at the beginning of the semester to participate in the club fair, main street fair, and homecoming parade.  We would like someone to volunteer for the activities position for Fall to help out with the events.  If anyone wants to take a street ride they can email Colin clar2797@suumail.net and he'll send out an email to the club and post the ride info on the website.  We grubbed on some pizza, wings, and bread while chatting about finals.

4/16/2008

We attended the SUUSA club bowl and awards meeting.  The motorcycle club was awarded the 2007-2008 Athletics and Recreation Club of the Year award.  We were given a certificate and our club name is on a plaque that is on display in the SUUSA office.  Thanks for all those who helped out this year making the club the best in the category!!

We talked about a club ride on Monday April 28th, study day during finals week.  We're going to meet at the canyon park at 10am and take a drive up the canyon, see map on front page.  We should get back at about 1:00pm and will stop for lunch.  This will also be the club's closing event of the school year.  The club will provide lunch, so even if you can't make the street ride, come to eat with us.  Location is TBD, but we talked about 5 buck pizza.

4/1/2008

We met at the Gerald R. Sherratt Library.  We talked about the club "Ride-in".  Jonathan Fisher is coordinating the ride-in.  It will be Friday April 4th from 10am-1pm.  We will want to have bikes there before 10.  Right now we have possibly four bikes and we have room for up to 10 so if you're interested in coming contact Jonathan Fisher at jonathanfish@gmail.com  If you can drop your bike off for an hour while you're in class that would be great.  We need to bring the bikes in from the library parking lot-no driving on grass or sidewalks other than to get your bike in and out of place (see picture on main page).
We also talked about doing a club ride/end of year party on the study day of finals week.  We kicked around a few ideas like riding to St. George and grabbing lunch, or riding up Cedar Canyon then stopping for lunch at 5 Buck Pizza.
There will be a club competition on April 15th at 6:00, there will be some trivia and prizes, more details to come.  If you can attend it will be fun, also we have been nominated for club of the year and the winner will be announced at the club competition.

3/11/2008

We met at the Gerald R. Sherratt Library.  We talked about doing a club "Ride-in" similar to the one we did last year.  The purpose of the ride-in is to promote the club.  Last year we didn't have any dirt bikes at the ride-in so we expect to get more dirt riders involved this year.  We need to know what bikes will be at the ride-in so contact scholes@suu.edu if you are interested in bringing your bike.  We are thinking about holding the ride-in on Friday, March 28th.  We talked about doing a few street rides soon.  The first would probably be Friday the 21st or Saturday the 22nd.  There's no class on Friday since it's spring break.  We talked about riding to St. George the back way via Enterprise and ride through Snow Canyon or the Gunlock area.  Those interested in riding should email scholes@suu.edu

2/19/2008

We met at the Gerald R. Sherratt Library.  We talked about the draft of the club constitution and decided next meeting to finalize the constitution (click link for constitution).  We decided that an off campus account at State Bank of Southern Utah may be the best route to go for the club account.

2/5/2008

We met at Pier 49 Pizza to get to know each other and discuss the club activities for this semester.  We talked about the draft of the club constitution and decided next meeting to finalize the constitution (click link for constitution).  We discussed meeting twice per month or possible every other week.  We decided that an off campus account may be the best route to go for the club account and possibly establishing the account at State Bank of Southern Utah.  Some of the funds could be used for club t-shirts, club get-togethers, and club rides.  We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using the SUUSA's new website as the primary website and concluded this website and a myspace page would better serve our club members.  We discussed possible marketing campaigns including a club ride-in similar to the one we did last year and make sure we have both street and dirt bikes on display.  We talked about getting pictures of new club members on the website, those interested need to email the pictures to scholes@suu.edu.

9/11/2007

We met at the parking lot in front of the Sharwann Smith Center, took some pictures, and then took off to go have dinner at the Pastry Pub.  We discussed the Homecoming Parade.  We wanted to get more involvement in our club outings and talked about how to increase club awareness.  We discussed how we can be more safe while driving.  We talked about how to look for bikes for those people who don't have one.  And we talked about how to get the MSF to come to Cedar City.

3/21/2007

It was a bit chilly at Godfather's Pizza Wednesday at 7:00 and it began to sprinkle during the club meeting.  No worries.  We ate pizza and talked about future rides on weekends when the weather is good and the rain is gone.  We talked about the how Motorcycle Safety Foundation performs the classes.  The MSF brings motorcycles for riders to utilize for the class.  The Motorcycle Club funding may be able to cover some expenses for the MSF course.  We just need definite numbers of people that can attend and the days that they are available.  We talked about the waiver that riders must sign in order to ride with the Motorcycle Club.  And we talked about how to get Nate's bike up and running again.

3/7/2007

The temperature was great for hosting the Ride-in on campus in front of the Library.  Many people brought their bikes and many more signed up to be members of SUU's Motorcycle Club.  Many people came and asked questions.  We discussed bringing in the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course into Cedar City.  Things are looking great for future riding in Southern Utah.  Some questions that were asked are:

1-Do I have to own a motorcycle to join the club?

No.  A motorcycle is not required to join the club.  Anyone with an interest in motorcycles, motorcycle maintenance, a desire to ride, or motorcycle building can join.

2-Can I ride with the motorcycle club if I have a dirt bike?

Yes.  Having a dirt bike does not disqualify you from riding with the motorcycle club street rides** provided that the bike is street legal and meets the standards set by the local laws.  **Dirt rides will be organized for riders of dirt only bikes.  **Adjusted 2/5/08

3-Can I ride with the motorcycle club if I have a disability that limits my movement, sight, or other?

Yes.  Riding is encouraged for those that are disabled.  Many motorcycle manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson, Honda, and BMW build specialized motorcycles for people with disabilities.  Not to mention the side-car.  Wide varieties of side-cars are offered for most motorcycles built today.

We look forward to riding this season and seeing the Motorcycle Safety Foundation starting a course in Cedar City.

2/21/2007

We talked about gaining public relations with SUUSA in order to enroll members.  We will be holding a motorcycle club gathering on the lower quad at noon on Wednesday, February 28th depending upon the weather.  We planned on having a Motorcycle Safety Foundation riding course to educate novice and experienced riders on better handling procedures and obstacle avoidance.  We are tentatively looking at the middle of April for this course.  We discussed creating a waiver for all participants of the motorcycle club.  Pizza was consumed as we talked of future rides.

1/26/2007

Butch Fossat was elected as club president.  We talked about the getting funds for the club, SUUSA offers merit money for doing various activities such as club fairs, meetings, etc.  We discussed possibly brining a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course to Cedar City.  Colin volunteered to be our webmaster.
