Southern Utah University Student Chapter Bylaws and Mission Statement

Mission Statement

As the Southern Utah University Student Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management we are committe4d to promoting mutually beneficial interaction between students and practitioners, providing opportunities for students interested in any of the fields related to human resource, business, and communication and extending opportunities for the supplementation of classroom education with real-world knowledge and hands-on experience.  In addition, we will strive to provide opportunities to students by offering valuable information, networking possibilities, and career opportunities, service and leadership experiences as well as scholarships and awards.  We feel that our strong commitment to these objectives will ensue a successful and valuable experience to all students who actively participate in the Southern Utah University Student Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Article I Identification

I:    This organization will be known as the Southern Utah University Student Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.

II:   The Southern Utah University Chapter, hereinafter referred to as the Chapter, will be affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management, hereinafter referred to as SHRM.

Article II Officer Responsibility Descriptions

President:  Coordinates with officers and advisor in order to carry out and oversee Chapter activities and business.  Represents Student Chapter in relations with local Professional SHRM Chapter.

Vice-President:  Assists President in Chapter activities and business, presides over meetings when President is not able to do so, in training to succeed to President during the next academic school year.

Secretary:  Records minutes and attendance of meetings, announces meeting time, place and other Chapter business to Chapter members.

Treasurer:  Oversees Chapter bank account and general fund allocations.

Fund-raiser Coordinator:  Oversees fund-raising activities of the Chapter.

Service Coordinator:  Oversees service activities of the Chapter.

Public Relations:  Oversees Chapter public relations with Southern Utah University, the Local Professional SHRM Chapter, and other organizations involved with the Chapter.

Article III Purposes of the Chapter

I:    To introduce those students with a future interest in business of the opportunities available within the human resource field.

II:   To provide students with up-to-date information and networking within the human resource field.

III:  To provide service in the community and to Southern Utah University in order to stay in "good standing" with the University Clubs and Organizations and develop students' life education.

    In order to accomplish these goals there shall be no discrimination to individuals due to race, color, age, sex, or national origin.

Article VI Membership

All applications for membership shall be made through the Chapter and dues will be payable upon joining the Chapter.  Students who pay membership fees to SHRM will be affiliated with the student Chapter.  Students who wish to join in the activities of the Chapter but who do not wish to join the national SHRM may join the Southern Utah University Human Resource Club.

Article V Meetings of Members

I:    Notice of meeting time and place shall be notified no more than 14 days prior to and no less than 4 days before Chapter meetings.

II:    The President shall preside over the meetings.  In the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall preside.  In the absence of both members, another officer or member may preside upon majority vote by the attending members.

III:    Every member of the Chapter is entitled to one vote on any matter of business carried out in the Chapter meetings.

Article VI Elections and Balloting

Officer elections shall be held by the third meeting of each academic school year.  At the beginning of the academic year the previous year's Vice-President Elect shall assume the position of President.  each officer will be elected upon receiving the majority vote cast for the particular office.  Successive balloting will take place in the event of a tie until one member receives a majority of the votes.  All officers will be expected to fulfill their duties until the end of the academic school year.  In the case where an officer cannot fulfill or continue their assignment, a new election will take place to replace the officer.

Article VII Parliamentary Procedure

Robert's Rules or Order shall be used to govern all parliamentary procedure conducted at Chapter meetings.

Article VIII Amendment or Revision of Bylaws

The bylaws may be amended by majority vote of the members in the Chapter.
