Leaders gave
time, energy
to better SUU

We are sad to see the current Executive Council, especially SUUSA President Matt Glazier and Academic Vice President Kolby Day, finish their terms because they have shown real dedication to SUU and the student body.
The Executive Council made themselves available to students. They listened to individual and group problems and tried to help in anyway.
Glazier and Day were highly visible. Throughout the year, they attended almost every meeting and activity involving students.
They stuck up for students during tough decisions about tuition and fee increases and other issues and tried to make decisions that help both SUU and the students.
We heard Glazier and Day worried themselves sick during the short time the administration gave them to decide whether or not to support a tuition increase.
During this time, they also tried to talk to as many students as possible to see how it would affect them. Although not all students supported the increase, Glazier and Day’s dedication to the issue is commendable.
They have investigated the price of books and food on campus, and have worked with the administration in promoting students’ rights.
Josie Beth Baxter, activities vice president, did a lot of work behind the scene to make activities, like Homecoming, go smoothly.
Aaron Miller, C&O vice president, transitioned from delegate to vice president when he was needed during a rough time for SUUSA.
We thank Glazier and Day for going beyond the call of duty.
Day ran the senate efficiently and smoothly and often attended C&O Assembly meetings to make sure bills or resolutions are passed or denied correctly so the senate could work on its problems, or club or group problems, later that evening. Both worked with administration, Dean’s Council, and others to help

students.
We thank Glazier for pushing to have student fees used for students and not used for academic purposes that should be paid for by tuition.
Glazier also used his presidential veto power correctly by making the C&O Assembly and SUUSA Senate stick to their bylaws.
We believe both Glazier and Day went beyond their job descriptions in supporting and helping the students. We thank them for their dedication to students.
We believe Kaydee Weaver, SUUSA president-elect, and Paul Shakespear, academic vice president-elect, have a lot to accomplish to fill the vacancy Glazier and Day are leaving.
We encourage all newly-elected Executive Council members to live up to their predecessors’ examples.
