Eastern Washington’s KDee Anderson scored her second
goal of the game 3:18 into the second overtime period
as the Eagles held off the SUU soccer squad 3-2 Tuesday
afternoon.
The game-winning goal was scored on a header after a center
pass from Sarah Windham.
“It was a good battle,” SUU soccer coach Brian
Stock said. “It’s just unfortunate. We were
winning that game twice and we allowed them back in. In
the end, they caught their break first in overtime.”
SUU (0-5) came within six minutes of its first win of
the season after Annie Payne scored an unassisted goal
from 25 yards in the 85th minute.
“Annie Payne scored a brilliant goal,” Stock
said. “but we let them back in and they got the
equalizer.”
Eastern Washington responded 34 seconds later, as Anderson
took a pass from Emily Squires and scored straight away
from 20 yards to tie the score.
It was the second time of the game that the Eagles had
scored within a minute of an SUU score. The T-Birds got
on the board first in the 30th minute on a goal by junior
Amber Tubbs.
“We’ve really been stressing hard that five
minutes after every event like that is just the most susceptible
time,” Stock said. “We want our kids to play
conservative: get the ball out, let’s push forward,
mark them hard, win the ball back and win the game.
“We let them play with it to much at the top of
our eighteen and they tucked one away.”
Stock was pleased with his team’s effort, especially
in the second half.
“We played a lot more composed,” he said.
“We really stressed at halftime taking care of the
small details of the game. But we made those adjustments
and the second half was much cleaner.”
The ‘Birds kept pace with the Eagles offensively,
only being outshot 16-13. SUU also had a chance to win
the game with 15 seconds to play, but just missed a shot.:18

period of the ’Birds’ double-overtime
loss to the Eagles. Amber Tubbs and Annie Payne each
scored goals to give SUU a 2-1 lead with little time
left in regulation, but some tough plays helped Eastern
Washington to force overtime, and the Eagles were
able to pull out the win. It was SUU’s first
overtime contest this year.

SUU goalkeeper Lyndsey Sobrero had 7 saves in 103minutes
of play. She had two important saves in the second half
to keep the ‘Birds in a tie.
Stock said his team is improving but still has some things
to work.
“Physically, I think we’re doing okay,”
Stock said. “We really needed to step up on intensity
a little bit more, look to win more of the battles.”
Next up for SUU is a trip to Logan to take on Utah State
Friday.
The Aggies are 2-1-1 after beating Eastern Washington 3-0
on Sunday.
The match starts at 4 p.m.
