The Cedar Bowling Center, located on 421 E. Highway 91, is an inexpensive recreation center that offers a variety of activities – beside bowling.
Aside from bowling, the center has a video game room, pool tables and air hockey tables. Jack Jones, owner of the facility, said he has plans to open a sports corner that will feature a big screen TV and add dart boards to the center within the next two months. Jones said, after buying the Cedar Bowling Center last July, he began a remodeling project he said he hoped would bring it up to date.
“When we (he and his wife) bought it we knew it needed a little work done,” Jones said.
“The sports corner and darts will be free of charge to students,” he said. “We just thought it would be something nice to add.”
Jones said he encourages students to visit the center because of its atmosphere.
“The atmosphere is nice here compared to say, going to a bar,” he said. “It’s a smokeless type atmosphere, but we do offer beer and coolers. We have people that like that.”
Katie Nicholls, a sophomore chemistry major from Santa Clara, said she has been to the center only a few times but said she would recommend it as a good place to have fun.
“In Cedar City it’s one of the only things you can do that’s not really expensive,” she said. “It doesn’t require a lot of planning and you can go and have fun.”
The center offers a discount to SUU students of three games for $5.97. Regular price for one game is $2.80.
With Halloween approaching, Jones said he hopes students make plans to attend the center’s Halloween party.
“Last year, we had people dress up and had a drawing for prizes,” he said. “We also did cosmic bowling where we turn upour sound system and have a light show. We have colored bowling pins and the lanes turn blue. Its a lot of fun.”
This Halloween is not the only opportunity to cosmic bowl.

Bowling is still a popular recreational activity for many students. The bowling alley in Cedar City provides a variety of activities for students at a reasonable price.

The activity is also offered on Friday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight. Aside from entertainment, the Cedar Bowling Center has a snack bar that Jones said has become quite popular simply through word of mouth.
The snack bar offers a variety of hamburgers as well as chicken strips, pizza, fish and chips and other snacks. Prices range from $1.59 to $4.49.
“Our portions are big,” he said. “For what you would pay at a fast food chain here you get at least four times as much.”
Jones said the Cedar Bowling Center is not only a good place to have fun and eat it’s a great place to socialize and meet new people.
“There are few activities where you can react with others around you like you can with bowling,” he said. “It’s great place to socialize.”
The center is open daily from 11 a.m to midnight.
