Welcome to the Department of Art and Design. Bring your ideas to life through intensive experiences in painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, illustration, ceramics, sculpture, photography, art education, and art history. Take courses for your personal development, general education, to obtain one of several minors, or major in a creative visual art. Our courses emphasize sound training in studio areas and understanding of art's past and present in order to build a solid foundation for individual expression.
We offer two types of degrees; one, a liberal arts degree that focuses on knowledge about art in the context of a broad course of general studies. It emphasizes the ability to articulate that knowledge through language, writing and hands on studio work and will include a minor of the student’s choosing. These courses of study lead to the Bachelor of Arts in Art History or the Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art degrees (BA). The second type of degree is a professional degree in a studio area. These courses of study lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design, Art Education, or Studio Arts in one of four emphasis areas. They prepare students for professional studio careers, teaching, and graduate studies in a studio discipline.
Art Insights class will meet on March 13, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the J. L. Sorenson P.E. Building Room 101. The featured speaker is June Roy, Visual Artist. Public Welcome.
