A series of impressions from SUU faculty and students about their experiences in Wuhan, China, and working on "The Dream of Helen."
"On Thursday, we had a press conference. Let me tell you, Mei really knows how to work the press. By Friday there were articles in 6 papers around the region. A reporter will be following Bethany around for a full day to create an article on her experiences in Wuhan. I will try to get copies of these articles to have someone translate....Kay and I taught at the Wuhan Conservatory last week. We learned we were the first foreigners invited to teach at their conservatory...it was an amazing experience....The concert on Friday at the Qintai Concert Hall was a big hit. Dr. Keith Bradshaw's composition was well received and following the last number, "The Yellow River Cantata," the audience clapped in unison and brought Xun back for an encore...it was a well deserved and a great moment for both Xun and SUU." -- Dean Shauna Mendini, June 11, 2011
" Kay Andersen and I finished the Maypole with Mr. Mei's approval...that is a big deal. I can breath a sigh of relief." -- Dean Shauna Mendini, June 5, 2011
"Rehearsals are better than expected. The production will be unbelievable." Dean Shauna Mendini, co-director of "The Dream of Helen," June 3, 2011
" Hey! Ok, so china is absolutely amazing...Yesterday we met and mingled with the 80 member company of Chinese dancers... all I can say is WOW! We all have our work cut out for us to make an impression, but speaking of impressions, I’ve made some good ones already! Xun Sun (SUU orchestra professor) asked Jenny Smith and I to prepare musical numbers to perform and share with the Chinese people. SOOOO, while mingling, Sun asked if I could sing them a song, and I obliged. While standing amongst this crowd of dancers, Sun got their attention and was going to translate my introduction before I sang. I reduced the nuptuals to one term, “LADY GAGA” and they all CHEERED!!! it was AMAZING LOL!" -- Payden Adams, May 26, 2011
