Staff Accompanist: Dr. Christian Bohnenstengel

Joel NevesDr. Christian Bohnenstengel received his Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in piano performance from Missouri Western State University. He was awarded the MWSU Foundation Piano Scholarship, the Presidential and STAR Scholarships, as well as the Scholastic Key Award. Dr. Bohnenstengel received the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His teachers included Jerry Anderson and Mark Clinton, piano, and Quentin Faulkner, harpsichord and organ. He received UNL Hixson-Lied travel grants to study with Christoph Lieske at the Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum in Salzburg during the summer of 2005 and to study and perform at the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival in Prague in 2006. Dr. Bohnenstengel is currently teaching at Southern Utah University. He previously taught at UNL and Doane College. 

Dr. Bohnenstengel has received numerous honors, awards and prizes. He won Second Prize in the Missouri Music Teachers Association Collegiate Honors Piano Auditions in November 2000. The following year, he was named Winner of the Best Performance Helen Trapp Award and won Second Prize in the Missouri Music Teachers Association Collegiate Honors Organ Auditions. In 2003, he won Second Prize in the Nebraska division of the MTNA Young Artist Performance Competition. Dr. Bohnenstengel appeared in master classes with Rita Sloan, Blanca Uribe, Ann Schein, and Murray Perahia, among others. His recent concert calendar includes recitals with flutists John Bailey and Javier Montilla in Venezuela and a performance at the Sommernachtsmusik in Moegglingen, Germany, an open air concert with an audience of more than 1,500. He also appeared as guest soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto in C major, K415 with the MWSU Symphony Orchestra.
