The SUU Department of Music is very excited about the formation of a new faculty string quartet. This professional quartet features musicians from the SUU music faculty who have traveled the globe entertaining audiences from Washington D.C. to China.

In deciding on a name for the newly formed Faculty String Quartet at Southern Utah University, the string faculty concluded that they wanted to honor a beloved and outstanding teacher whose impact touched not only SUU students, but the community of Cedar City as well. What better tribute to Roy L. Halversen could there be than to form the Southern Utah University Halversen String Quartet?
The Halversen String Quartet is dedicated to performing the highest caliber of literature, as Roy Halversen would have expected. Mr. Halversen graduated from Utah State University, and he also studied violin at Julliard and the University of Berlin. He taught for a number of years at Southern Utah University, and his influence has carried over into new generations through his students to locations throughout the United States and overseas. The music department would like to thank Roy’s wife, Maude Macfarlane Halversen, for allowing the department’s string faculty to take the Halversen name. The faculty who are members of the Halversen Quartet are Xun Sun, (violin) Ling Yu, (viola) LuAnne Brown, (violin) and Tracie Price, (cello).
