With the backdrop of the red rock mountains of Cedar City, Lynn’s Summer Percussion Retreat is time for players to focus on their playing and performance while interacting and having fun with other percussionists in an intimate setting.

There are opportunities for percussion ensemble playing, or a student can opt to just work on solo works as well.  Lessons can be on any instrument in the percussion family.
retreat 3

Percussion Ensemble playing gives participlants the opportunity to collaborate with other percussionists, and work on their ensemble playing skills.
retreat 5

Instead of a traditional culminating concert, participants have the opportunity to record their solos and ensemble pieces in the Southern Utah University’s Thorley Recital Hall, and after CDs and DVDs are sent to the players for them to use for auditions, demo reels or various other uses.

And, of course, there are lots of opportunities for fun as well!  Participants spend one day at the beautiful Zion National Park, as well a half-day trip to Cedar Breaks National Monument.

As a participant, you are encouraged to being reading materials, sketchbooks, or whatever you may like to occupy yourself during practice breaks.
retreat 7

The design of the festival is to encourage thought and a “retreat” like atmosphere, giving you a time to focus on music without the distractions of your daily life.  In addition to discussing technique and working on musical specifics,  you can delve into some of the finer points of performance and how to take your musical abilities to the next level.
