Artistic Expertise Demonstrated in Theatre Props

For Immediate Release: June 12, 2007

(Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah)  The SUU College of Performing and Visual Arts, in conjunction with the Utah Shakespearean Festival, will present Setting the Stage, an exhibit of props and scenery from previous Festival seasons. On view from June 21, 2007 through August 25, 2007 Setting the Stage will feature such props as a pot-bellied stove, a cannon, and historical furniture, all fabricated by the Utah Shakespearean Festival properties department.

Ben Hohman, Properties and Display Director for the Festival, explains, “By selecting these pieces I wanted to show the breadth and depth of the props studio work.  These examples show the craft of translating the designer’s research into a historically accurate finished project.”

There will be an opening reception at the gallery on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.  The reception is open to the public and admission is free.

The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday, Noon-7:00 p.m., and is located on the ground floor in the Braithwaite Liberal Arts Center building on the East end of the beautiful SUU campus.  Admission is free.  For more information contact the Gallery at 435-586-5432 or visit our website.

The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery is supported in part by the Utah Arts Council, with funding from the State of Utah and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
