For Immediate Release: August 1, 2007

(Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah)  The SUU Department of Art and Design announced the appointment of photographer Jeremias Paul to the faculty beginning in the fall semester of 2007.  Mr. Paul’s photographic work melds elements of sculpture and performance art with photography and is primarily focused around his interaction with the landscape.

Dean Bill Byrnes of the College of Performing and Visual Arts noted, “We are delighted to have been able to secure such a talented and experienced artist to the Art and Design faculty.”  Eric Brown, Art and Design Department chair, adds, “The expertise that Jeremias Paul has will give SUU’s new photography program great focus and energy and the power of his images will be of great interest to the public.”

Jeremias Paul, born in Germany, holds a Masters of Fine Arts and a Bachelors of Fine Arts in photography from the Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia. Mr. Paul’s work has been exhibited nationwide at various venues, including Philadelphia’s JMS Contemporary Art Gallery, New York’s Russeck Gallery, Rhonda Schaller Studio, and 3rd Ward Gallery, and Boston’s Griffin Museum of Photography, among others. Mr. Paul has received numerous awards and his work is included in many private and permanent collections.

His primary interest in teaching photography revolves around educating his students about the medium’s elaborate versatility and power in contemporary culture. What fascinates him the most about photography is its inherent quality to capture and compress time into what looks to be an effortless moment of interaction with the world around him.
