Repertory Dance Theatre Soloist Joins SUU Dance FAculty

For Immediate Release: August 7, 2007

(Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah)  The SUU Department of Theatre Arts and Dance announced the appointment of dancer Chien-Ying Wang to the faculty beginning in the fall semester of 2007.  Ms. Wang’s extensive background is in ballet and modern dance performance, choreography, and teaching.

“Ms. Wang is an artist of exceptional ability and talent,” notes Shauna Mendini, Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance. “As a performer she has the power to move an audience, and as a teacher she challenges students to produce work with clear understanding and significance.” Bill Byrnes, Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts adds, “Ms. Wang’s talent as a performer and teacher is a valuable addition to the Theatre Arts and Dance faculty.”

Chien-Ying Wang was born in Taiwan and began her professional career at the National Taiwan Academy of Arts.  She received her MFA in Dance from Ohio State University, and is also a Labanotation teacher.  She recently completed her fifth season as a soloist and company member with Repertory Dance Theatre.
