"Gloria" Christmas Choral Concert

(Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah) The SUU Department of Music will continue its 2007-2008 Masterworks Series with "Gloria" Christmas Choral Concert, Sunday, December 2, at 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Thorley Recital Hall. The concerts feature the SUU Concert Choir and OPUS Chamber Ensemble singing a wide array of Christmas choral music from the beautiful, reverent traditional to the festive, holiday sing-a-long.
Dr. Grace St. Pierre, Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities, directs the SUU Concert Choir and the OPUS Chamber Ensemble in a musical offering that evokes the beauty of Christmas.
As the concert opens the SUU Concert Choir shares the Biblical story of the Nativity with soulful observance depicted through hauntingly beautiful songs and hymns including O Come O Come Emmanuel, Stravinsky's Ave Maria and Kendrick's Magnificat. Sara Guttenberg, Assistant Choir Director, also directs the SUU Concert Choir. Enchanting and tranquil, a lighter section follows as gorgeous voices blend seamlessly with the OPUS Chamber Ensemble performing peaceful, and upbeat carols from France, Spain, and England.
The most festive part of the concert concludes the performance. Student conductor, J.P. Kentros leads the SUU Concert Choir in Carol of the Bells. The choir performs the magnificent African-American spiritual Go Where I Send Thee. And, soon everyone will be singing, joyously heralding in the Christmas spirit as the Concert Choir invites the audience to join them in praising the glories of the Christmas season.
"Gloria", the poignant and celebratory Christmas choral concert, promises to be both musically rewarding and emotionally uplifting, a wonderful way to begin the December holiday season.
