SUU Department of Music presents the Second Annual Southern Utah Day of Percussion

For Immediate Release: February 29, 2008

(Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah)  The SUU Department of Music presents the Second Annual Southern Utah Day of Percussion on Saturday, March 8th, 2008, 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on the SUU campus.

Day of Percussion includes solo and ensemble percussion performances by local high schools in the morning, and workshops and master classes in the afternoon. At 1 p.m., the SUU Percussion Ensemble performs Out of Africa with music from Ghana, Uganda, and Zimbabwe in Thorley Recital Hall on the SUU campus.

Ted Atkatz, former Principal Percussionist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and current bandleader, keyboardist, and vocalist with the Chicago-based rock band, NYCO will conduct a clinic on Orchestral Percussion at 2 p.m. in South Hall. SUU faculty, Dr. Patrick Roulet, also leads clinic on Solo Marimba at 3:30 p.m.

The Second Annual Southern Utah Day of Percussion is presented by Southern Utah University and the Percussive Arts Society and is sponsored, in part, by Vic Firth, Yamaha, and Zildjian.
