FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 15, 2007
SUU Music Department’s Symphony Orchestra Concert (Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah) The SUU Music Department will present the SUU Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Xun Sun, Friday, November 30, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall on the SUU campus. The SUU Symphony Orchestra will present a musical evening of whimsy, romance and passion.
The SUU Symphony Orchestra will present Beethoven’s elegant, graceful and lighthearted Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Xun Sun, Director of Orchestral Activities at SUU, chose a piece from Beethoven’s early work, the unusual and warm Symphony No. 2 in D Major, in order to expose his students to an emotional yet softer side of Beethoven’s compositional brilliance.
The concert will also feature SUU Department of Music faculty member and award-winning tenor, Lawrence Johnson. Johnson will perform two of the world’s most romantic, passionate arias, the wistful yet magical Flower Song from Bizet’s Carmen and, Rodolfo’s lovely, lyric aria from Puccini’s La Boheme. Through this creative collaborative process with Johnson, Sun hopes to offer his students a compelling professional experience with a master teacher that will help positively shape their attitudes toward their future as musicians.
Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for SUU Faculty and Staff, $3 for Students, and free for SUU students with a valid I.D. For tickets please call (435)586-7878.
