Additional methods for finding data on the AGRC site:

There are multiple methods for downloading GIS data from the AGRC site.   DOQ, DRG and DEM downloads will be covered later.  Once you know what you need, several alternative methods, follow:

Alternative A:

  • Go to ( http://agrc.utah.gov

  • Choose SGID & GIS Data link (upper left section)

  • Choose 'Download SGID GIS Data—ArcInfo Export File Indicies (old format, nad27)'

  • Choose 'Utah Statewide Layer Index'

  • From the -- Subject Quicklinks -- choose Administration/Ownership

  • Scroll down until you see County Boundaries, again you have three options

  • Right click on /sgid/st024/aocbo.e00 and choose ‘save target as’

  • Navigate to your workspace, change save type to all files and then choose save

The above method can be repeated for any scale or data type.

Alternative B:

Navigate the SGID interactive Map ( http://atlas.utah.gov/sgidmap/viewer.htm )

(agrc.utah.gov -->  SGID & GIS data -->  SGID Interactive map)

The interactive map might need special speed and computer configuration.  Once the Internet map is working set the active map layer to the desired layer.   Your choices are 1:24k, 1:100k, 1:250k or Counties (statewide does not seem to be an option).

Use the zoom tools or the zoom by region option to find the location you need.  After finding the location, make sure the appropriate layer is active, (i.e. if you want 1:100k data make it active).  Choose the Hyper link tool and pick on the quadrangle or county.  This will take you into the SGID after which following the steps in alternative A.

Alternative C:

Navigate to the Metadata Explorer

(agrc.utah.gov -->  SGID & GIS data --> Metadata Explorer—Search the SGID)

Choose 'downloadable data' for content type

            Set 'Boundaries' for content theme

Set 'County' for the optional keyword

            Choose the START SEARCH button.

On the right you will see a listing of data that match your search.  Find the statewide 1:24k county boundary file and choose 'view details'.  This will show you the metadata for this dataset.   Choose the back button on your browser then choose the content title. Currently the links on the metadata explorer only take you back to the AGRC ftp site and you would need to complete alternative A above to download the files.
