Importing in Batch Mode:
The interchange files you just downloaded (e00 files) need to be imported to create an ESRI coverage. Start ArcToolBox, open the ‘Conversion Tools’, choose ‘Import to coverage’ toolbox and then double click on the ‘Import from Interchange file’ tool.
(For those with the ArcView toolbox choose 'ArcView Import from Interchange')

We will be using the batch file import option to import all the soil interchange files (lcsoi) at the same time. See the above section on importing e00 files for help with the batch import option.
For the input file use the lcsoi.e00 file and for the output call it lscoi. Make sure the output file is in the same directory as the input. You will find that you can copy and paste from the input box into the output box and just remove the .e00 extension from the output file. Click on the batch option button and continue until you have entered all nine quadrangles.

If your dialog box is similar choose OK
The results from the import should create a new Arc/Info coverage in each of the nine directories. Notice that the ‘lcsoi’ directory along with ‘info’ directory let us know that it is an Arc/Info coverage.
