Biology (Agriculture - Zoology - Botany - Biology Education)
Physical Science (Chemistry - Geology - Geography - GIS - Engineering - Physics)
The college of science has been the biggest user and supporter of the GIS program to date. Biology has contributed a considerable about of funding and support. Student involvement comes from geography, geology, biology and agriculture. As of the 2003-04 catalog the a new BIS in Natural Resource has been implemented with GIS and GPS playing a major role in this degree as well as increasing the potential for students to acquire a job.
Geology in the past year has mandated that their students take the Principles of GIS course for their geology major. Geography minors continue to have the option to use the GIS courses for a portion of the minor. We have had a few minor projects with chemistry and would like to complete a water distribution study in the near future.
Engineering and Physics are starting to be tied a little closer as the survey program is brought back and the environmental engineering program builds as well. The engineers understand that the students with civil engineering pursuits must be introduced to the science of GIS.
In addition last year we had a meeting with the Dean of the college of natural resource from USU. In this meeting we discussed our students’ articulation into their program. Physics became an area a focus for students going on into the remote sensing portion of the natural resource masters program at USU.
