Welcome to eLearning! eLearning is SUU’s online course management system. It is where our online courses/ supplemental campus courses are hosted. SUU has online courses that are entirely online and face-to-face courses with some online components (such as a calendar, email, and a syllabus) these are supplemental campus courses.
Welcome to SUU! Have you ever taken a course online before? If not don’t worry we will help you through the process of accessing and using an online course through SUU. Is your course entirely online? Or do you go to class, but some information is online? eLearning is where all online courses/ supplemental campus courses are hosted.

For students on campus, with classes that are partially online the transition should not be too difficult. Not all instructors have online components to their courses. If your instructor has told you via the syllabus or in class that they do have a online component to their course find out what you need to know to use it and how often you should check the online part of your course.
For online students, since you won’t be in a classroom with your professor and classmates, you will need to be capable of independent learning. Your instructor will provide you with course materials and instruction so that your online experience will be a successful one.
The syllabus is typically a crucial part of the course as it gives instruction and guidelines to help you succeed. However, you will be responsible for keeping up with any reading, assignments, quizzes, etc that may be a part of your course and the timeline that has been set up by your instructor (some courses may not have a strict timeline, but it is still important to space out your course work so not to rush it in a short amount of time). Some students prefer the independence of Distance Learning; others find the independence uncomfortable and miss being part of the classroom experience. Distance-learning courses give students greater freedom of scheduling, but they can require more self-discipline than on-campus classes. Each course is different but in courses with active participation (and maybe those without) stay connected with everyone, both classmates and your instructor. Interaction is an important part of learning and though the platform has changed participation should not, in fact, it should increase. The more effort that you can put into your course the better. In online learning, students can’t sit in the back of their virtual class and not participate. Your questions, thoughts, ideas and opinions are important for the learning process of everyone in the class.
Some key points of are:
Did you take an online class last semester, last year or a couple of years ago? You probably became familiar with WebCT 4 which has been the online course management system for years. SUU is now using eLearning which is new version of WebCT with a new name. It was previously known as WebCT 6. There are differences between the two versions, and these differences are explored in the guide The Differences Between WebCT 4.1 and eLearning.
Have you taken Adobe Connect Pro (Formerly Breeze) Section courses before? Or is this your first semester using it and you have some questions.
Some of SUU’s courses are taught live online through Adobe Connect Pro software that is hosted at SUU and can reach students anywhere where there is an internet connection. There are specific technology requirements for courses taught in this format and those are part of the System Requirements page. As the official name change is still in progress it may be referred to as Breeze or as Adobe Connect Pro in difference instances, but they are the same product.
All courses delivered in this format are accessed through eLearning. If you have any questions: Please contact the IMIC.
