 About Us

The IMIC::

At SUU, the Instructional Media Integration Centre [IMIC] was established in 2003 as a centralized office to support educators in the integration of instructional media and use of Learning Managment Systems [LMS] into the various learning environments. The IMIC also manages the development of online courses offered from SUU.

This center includes administrative system elements, guidelines and standards in the development of online courses and projects. Although each course is developed independently, they should ultimately coordinate, integrate and standardize with the existing and future online education system at SUU. The understanding of system elements, requirements and limitations should be the initial step in online course development.

The IMIC has the responsibility of assisting faculty in online course development. This includes:

  1. Providing guidelines and SUU online requirements
  2. Consulting services
  3. Creating online training, printable guides and support resources
  4. Providing asynchronous/synchronous applications and services for faculty to use in classroom/conference presentations
  5. Assisting with LMS and content generating applications to ensure a high quality products
  6. Providing “front-line” technical support and assistance to faculty using Learning Management Systems [LMS](i.e. WebCT/eLearning)

The ultimate goals of the IMIC are to:

  1. Increase accessibility and flexibility of courses and programs through online services.
  2. Improve course content as part of the conversion process from face-to-face to online delivery environments.
  3. Define an online course format and consult departments/colleges in developing a capability to transfer the traditional course to an online format with the intent to help others in similar efforts.
  4. Providing and empowering faculty with the ability to apply and use instructional technology in their learning environments.
  5. Administer and set the guidelines and protocols for all SUU courses using the LMS.

Providing a means for departmental faculty to stay current with technology will be an integral part of how we learn, teach, communicate and conduct business in the foreseeable future.
