Quote of the Day
"For man, the unexamined life is not worth living.
Not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued." - Socrates
***The life experience is carefully planned to teach participants about discrimination and prejudice. Each participant is placed into one of three catagories, Royalty, People, or Peons. Throughout the morning each group was treated differently, causing frustration and anger by many students. A "de-briefing" helped participants understand the purpose of the activity and apply principles that will benefit them for the rest of their life.
GHA Comments of the day:
What did you learn from the Life Experience Activity?
I learned that we sometimes treat our peers badly just because they are different then us. We are mean to them and are really horrible to them. I learned that we should be friends to everyone, no matter their background or if they are different. We just need to be a friend to everyone. ~Katie C.
That people bond when the going gets tough. ~ Kelton A.
The Life Experience Activity was emotionally and mentally draining. At first everyone thought it was a game so everyone was still happy and perky. But as it kept going, it got really hard and frustrating. As a common person, anything we did, the peons got punished. It taught me that society trains us to be with our own people... ~Jessica R.
How has the food been at GHA?
The food has been really amazing. I love the fact that we don't eat at the cafeteria very much. The restaurants have been really fun to go to with all of my new friends. ~ Henrie W.
The food has been amazing. They feed us good here at GHA. I'm never hungry and the food is always delicious. ~ Carly G.
Lots of good food has been given to us at GHA. I especially like the diversity. ~Kori C.
In the debates did you argue a position that you agreed with or didn't agree with? Was your opinion changed?
I didn't try to take sides on it but like any other debate, there are great points to each side or else it wouldn't be a fair debate. I just tried to agree with all of the good points, ours and the opponents. ~ Dexter Humphreys
