Campus Involvement

Want to know more about involvement at SUU? Here's a brief description of some of the organizations that can help you get involved.

Presidential Ambassadors are a leadership group on-campus that focus on serving potential students. From campus tours, to campus events Ambassadors serve as the initial face of the University for many prospective students. Ambassadors also play an important role in the campus community by participating in school activites and supporting school functions. They also organize two to three service projects each semester to benefit the SUU community. Ambassadors also focus on learning leadership skills that will benefit them throughout their college experience and into their career. Learn more at: www.suu.edu/ss/admission/pa

The Service & Learning Center is the place on campus to get involved with community service. Students serve locally as tutors, in the homeless shelter, in the on-campus or community-based food pantry, with Sub for Santa, Make A Difference Day, and in many other places! They also travel with Habitat for Humanity in the United States and to Mexico to build houses, deliver toys and do other projects to help those in need. You can lead an alternative break, plan a community service day, take charge of Sub for Santa, and much, much more! The Service & Learning Center offers a variety of leadership  and involvement opportunities for those interested in getting involved and making a difference!

The Student Alumni Association works in conjunction with the Alumni Relations Office to celebrate the University and foster loyalty, service and fellowship among alumni, faculty, students and friends of SUU. Student Alumni takes an active role in Homecoming, Founder’s Day and Graduation festivities, as well as other SUU special events and concerts where alumni and students come together. The group sponsors several events including True T-Bird Night, Final’s Survival Kits, Career Networking Lunches and is responsible for marketing the Alumni Mentoring Network to current students. Student Alumni provides its members with a unique opportunity to serve the University while building resumes, gaining experience with event management and networking with SUU graduates.

Student Activities is the office that plans activities for SUU students. They work with the student leaders of the Southern Utah University Student Association. SUU's Student Association (SUUSA) Government has opportunities for all types of involvement. SUUSA Government receives a portion of student fees to create campus-wide acitivites, develop and assist clubs and organizations, and enhance all the colleges within SUU. SUUSA Government also represents student interests to university, local, and state-wide entities. A wide array of involvement and opportunities are available through the Association! Outdoor Recreation Center Leaders & Trip guides The Outdoor Center showcases the amazing surroundings of Southern Utah by creating an atmosphere at SUU of excitement and enthusiasm for outdoor recreation opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community. The Center, located in the Sharwan Smith Center, offers a chance for students to hike beautiful slot canyons, rappel and climb red rock, snowshoe at moonlight, and kayak the Colorado River. If you need equipment to enjoy the outdoors, the center can provide that also. Or, if you prefer, you can use the resource center to research and put together your own trip with books, maps, and other resources to help you get out and go. The Outdoor Center offers tremendous leadership opportunities for students to assist in managing the center, run a program, utilize the resource area for meetings, create and maintain the website, and of course, participate in a wide variety of programming, trips, and special events. For more current information, check the Outdoor Center website at www.suu.edu/ss/outdoors.

RHA [Residence Hall Association] Board [requires living on-campus] “Connecting You to Success” is the theme of the Housing & Residence Life department. Be a part of the RHA team and assist the RHA Presidency with housing activities; learn the “ins-and-outs” of on-campus housing; interact with Resident Assistants in planning housing events; represent the wide variety of students who live and learn as residents of on-campus housing. Check-in your room two days early (we’ll waive the early check-in fee!) and assist with resident check-ins. You will not only learn leadership skills and have a lot of fun – you will instantly meet active, involved SUU students and immediately form friendship bonds before class even begins.
