Types of Scholarships

Freshman Scholarships

Priority Deadline- All Fall 2013 applicants that complete the application for admission before December 1, 2012 will automatically be considered for academic scholarships. The application for admission requires the following: admissions application, application fee, official high school transcripts, and ACT/SAT scores.

Freshman in-state Academic Scholarships
  • President's Four Year Renewable Scholarship - $5,000 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.6 GPA required for renewal
  • Founders' Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $3,000 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.6 GPA required for renewal
  • Deans' Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $2,000 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.3 GPA required for renewal
  • Centurium Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $1,000 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.3 GPA required for renewal
Freshman out-of-state Academic Scholarships
  • President's Non-Resident Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $16,000 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.6 GPA required for renewal
  • Founders' Non-Resident Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $10,500 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.6 GPA required for renewal
  • Deans' Non-Resident Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $9,000 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.3 GPA required for renewal
  • Centurium Non-Resident Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $5,250 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.3 GPA required for renewal
  • Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $9,000 per year
    • Cumulative SUU 3.0 GPA required for renewal
Alumni Legacy Scholarship

Are you a nonresident student? Did one or both of your parents graduate from SUU? If so, you may be eligible for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship. To apply, students must:

  • Be admitted and enrolled as a first time, nonresident student within the Utah state system of higher education
  • Have at least one parent who graduated with an associate's degree or higher from Southern Utah University (Southern Utah State College, College of Southern Utah, etc.)

Please note: If you accept an Alumni Legacy Scholarship, you will not be eligible to gain Utah Residency. For more information, please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (435) 586-7735.

Alumni Legacy Scholarships awards are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

  • There are two Alumni Legacy scholarship tiers.
    • Tier 1: Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $10,500 per year
    • Tier 2: Four Year Renewable Scholarship- $7,000 per year

Transfer Student Scholarships

International Student Scholarships

International scholarships are available to new undergraduate students and can be obtained through the International Admissions Office. Contact the International Admissions Office here.

To be considered you must:

  • Complete the admissions process by May 1, 2013.

Current SUU Students

An application for currents students is available each November with a February 1st deadline. This application has scholarship opportunities including: Department and Endowment scholarships.

 

Scholarship housing

Scholarship Housing is a partial housing award redeemable through Leavitt Land & Investment. If awarded, the scholarship will cover 75% of your rent and you will be responsible for the remaining 25%. The amount of the rent and scholarship will not be known until you have been assigned an apartment by Leavitt Land. Applications for scholarship housing are accepted online starting November 1st with a priority deadline of February 1st for the upcoming academic year. Please direct any questions or concerns to the SUU Financial Aid office at scholarshiphousing@suu.edu or 435-586-7735.

The February 1 deadline has passed, we are no longer accepting new scholarship housing applications.

 

Private Scholarships

Some organizations offer educational funding which must be filtered through our office if you are receiving federal aid. Organizations that offer such funds may be (but are not limited to) the following: high schools, churches, employers, clubs to which you or your parents belong (Rotary, Elks, Daughters of the American Revolution, etc.), organizations for which you have done volunteer work, and possible future employers.

You may also seek private scholarships through websites such as http://newbeginningscholarship.com/new/ or http://www.zinch.com/. DO NOT PAY FOR ASSISTANCE IN FINDING SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL AID. We can offer the same services for free through our office. Please contact Nellie Lee for additional information on private scholarships.

Defer A Scholarship

This form is required for students with a scholarship who will be taking an approved leave of absence.

 

Appeal a scholarship

The scholarship appeal process allows students to appeal a decision regarding their institutional scholarship. The appeal process provides an opportunity for students to explain extenuating circumstances that contributed to missed deadlines or failure to meet GPA requirements. This appeal cannot be used for scholarship housing or general scholarships.
