How can I stay up to date with what is happening in my student’s life?
The best way to know what your student is up to is to talk to them. You can stay in touch with them through their student email, postal mail, or on-campus home phone number.
Is my student guaranteed housing?
Housing spots are awarded on a first come, first serve basis. The only way to guarantee a spot is to get your application in early. Upon receiving your application and deposit, the housing and residence life office will mail you a confirmation letter informing you whether you have been reserved a room or made the waiting list. As students cancel their reservations, calls will be placed to the next names on the waiting list offering them a spot in on-campus housing. Students who do not get into on-campus housing will receive a refund on their deposit.
Does it cost anything to sign up?
There is a $35 non-refundable application fee associated with SUU housing. Submission of your student’s application must also include the $165 refundable housing deposit in addition to the application fee, in order to validate his/her application.
When will my student know his/her housing assignment? Can he/she change it?
Around the beginning of May, the housing and residence life office will mail out letters notifying residents what room they are in and who their roommate will be. The letter will also include contact information for the assigned roommate so that students can contact each other and collaborate before they get to school.

If something goes wrong, where can my student turn?
With SUU housing and residence life you do not need to worry about your student. We have an excellent, live-in, professionally trained staff of Resident Assistants (RAs) and Hall Directors to assist your student with questions and concerns, to help with difficult situations, or just to be a friend. Your student’s RA is a full-time student and resident who has chosen to make him/herself available to assist other students with information, help, understanding and friendship.
Will my student have any difficulty meeting people?
Building successful connections includes building social connections. At SUU housing and residence life we work hard to plan numerous social and learning activities for your student. We have a Residence Hall Association (RHA) program that plans an event once a month for all of the residents in on-campus housing. In addition RAs and Hall Directors host fun activities that allow residents to interact and build lasting friendships. With so many people living nearby your student is sure to find someone who shares his/her interests. Students who live on-campus often develop close-knit relationships.
What is residence life like?
