SUU Orientation

 International Student Orientation

International Students will attend Traditional Orientation with other SUU students.  Orientation will provide students with tools and resources to support their transition to college life.  In addition to attending Traditional Orientation, International students will need to register for the UNIV1020 Acculturation course.  There will also be arrival services offered to help International Students transition to life in Cedar City.

Traditional Orientations

Traditional Orientation is a fast-paced program that begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 3:15 p.m. Throughout the day participants will learn about academics, student life and services, meet with their advisor and get to know other new students. Students do not pay a fee to attend this program.  International Students are encouraged to attend Orientation on one of these two dates.

Schedule

8:00 - 9:00 am Check-in/SUU at a glance Get your student I.D. card, buy a parking pass, and learn about all the different services SUU has to offer. Visit enough booths, and you can put your name in a drawing for a great prize!
Sharwan Smith Center - First Floor/Rotunda
9:00 - 9:30 am Welcome to SUU! Sharwan Smith Center - Church Auditorium
9:30 - 10 am O-Meetings and Icebreakers Meet your OLeader and  get to know other students in your college.  Feel free to ask any questions you have about your class schedule or available campus resources.
10-10:30am Group Advising Learn about academic requirements, how to register for classes, and how to work with an academic advisor.
10:30-11:15 College/Major Advising Meet in a small group with your OLeader and Academic Advisor to get all of your questions answered.
11:15-12 Campus Tour A guided tour of campus with an O-Leader. Feel free to ask any questions you have about your class schedule or available campus resources.
12-1 Lunch Lunch is provided as part of your Orientation. SUU faculty and staff will join you for a delicious meal. If you feel you need extra help with class registration, reserve an appointment with your academic advisor. These appointments will be available between 3:30-5pm.

12-1 Bookstore Open House After you finish eating, stop by the SUU Bookstore for chances to win prizes!  Don't forget to ask for your Orientation discount!
1-1:30 How to Succeed in School...Trying! Learn from an SUU Professor what is expected of your academic performance.

1:30-1:45 O-Meeting Meet with your OLeader and guests to plan what sessions you will attend this afternoon.
1:45-2:15 Session 1

2:50-3:15 Tradition Time Learn an SUU Tradition and show your T-Bird spirit.
3:15 Closing Session Pick up your student ID, win prizes, and enter for an extra chance to win a FREE meal plan.

3:30 Housing Tours Head over to Eccles, to learn about on-campus housing and receive a tour of the facilities.
3:30-5pm Individual Appointments During lunch you will be able to schedule an individual appointment with your academic advisor if you need more information about registering for classes. You will also be able to meet a with Financial Aid Counselor.
