SUU Orientation

Thunder Academy

August 21-24, 2014 (See Schedule Below)

Please Note: Schedule is tentative and subject to change!

Starting college is a storm of various emotions – anxiety, excitement, confusion, and happiness. Thunder Academy is designed to ease you into the transition from living at home with your family to making SUU your new home. We build on what has already been shared at your summer orientation and ensure you are ready to succeed when classes start. Thunder Academy will help minimize your nerves and calm your anxiety. It will also make certain you are aware of important elements needed for success like expectations, community standards and understanding things like our online class technology. While much of Thunder Academy is serious, we also offer many fun activities to help you meet people, get to know the area and settle in at SUU.

Thunder Academy begins with the opening Academic Convocation on Thursday, August 21 at 12 noon. Other highlights include attending a Utah Shakespeare production of Twelfth Night (everyone gets a FREE ticket), nationally known speakers, walking under the Carter Carillion Tower, a day of service in our community, and social activities. Thunder Academy ends with a visit to the President’s home for dessert on Sunday evening.

Thunder Academy is REQUIRED and attendance is taken at the events. This is an extension of the required SUU orientation.  Please make plans now to be move in and be ready to go by Thursday, August 21 at noon.  If you have questions about Thunder Academy, you should direct them to the Orientation Office at (435) 586-1932 or orientation@suu.edu.

* Indicates a required event for the UNIV2010: University Passport course.  Attendance will be taken at these events to ensure that students receive credit for attending Orientation and Thunder Academy.  If you are not currently enrolled in this course and would like to be, please contact orientation@suu.edu.
