The Outdoor Center Staff

Photo: Anne Smith Anne Smith - Center Director
Anne Smith is the glue that holds this whole operation together.  As director of the center, Anne is constantly on the run.  While she is not working at the Outdoor center, Anne loves home schooling her children, serving in her church and community, and eating her favorite snack food—tator tots.  Anne is an avid backpacker, skier, and  hippie.

Vicki Tracy
Vicki Tracy-Student Manager
Vicki Tracy is a transfer student to SUU and is studying a little of everything.  She is a red dirt farm girl from Monticello/Eastland, Utah. Her favorite movie is “The Three Amigos” and yes, she knows the “My Little Buttercup” dance by heart. Come by the center and ask her to prove it! Vicki is aspiring to become an intern for David Letterman and find out where in the world Carmen San Diego is.  Her favorite outdoor activity is building forts in her backyard and backpacking in the canyon country.
Phillip Rhoades Phillip Rhoades-Volunteer Director
A recent migrant from Moab, Phillip now finds himself returning to the academic life after an eight-year hiatus (aka dropout). During those eight years, Phillip travelled around North America backpacking, canyoneering, and being an all-around dirtbag. Poor from an obsession with guidebooks and maps, he now finds himself indentured to the outdoor industry and hopelessly stalking the experiences that reside in landscape.
Jeff Heaton Jeff Heaton- Advertising
Jeff Heaton is a local native of the Cedar City area, and the resident computationalizer at the Outdoor Center. When he's not excitedly working at said center he enjoys many outdoor activities, including but not limited to rock climbing, canyoneering, and playing GI Joes in the backyard. If you ever need someone to do some outdoor activity with, Jeff could very well be the one that directs you to such a person. Just kidding.
Dean Cummings Dean Cummings- Gear Specialist
My name is Dean Cummings and I love mountain biking, Hot-Rodding, snow shoeing, and anything else in the outdoors.  I am an outdoor recreation major and I think it is the best thing since sliced bread.  I am from the huge metropolis of Kanosh, Utah (a.k.a. Heaven on Earth) and I love all the fun things there are to do in Cedar City.
Ashley Noe Ashley Noe- Resource Manager
Ashley is a former “TRUE BADGER”… I mean, Snow College student.  Ashley is from the small and hickish town of Enterprise “No Where”, Utah.  She just LOVES the outdoors and getting dirty and staying dirty for days at a time. Her favorite summer adventures in the outdoors are Hiking, Backpacking and Rock climbing; oh ya, definitely snowboarding in winter!  In her youth she liked to race people to the car and create massive huts with tables, chairs and big blankets.  Also, her favorite ice cream is Cookie Dough w/ Oreo, pretty much mixed together... and that’s about it.
Lori Simkins Lori Simkins- Business Manager
Lori Simkins is from the 801 area code zone of Utah. She enjoys the outdoors maybe, but is far more interested in the many nuances of the wonderful world of business. At the Center, she oversees financial procedures with a COLD IRON FIST! Her favorite pastimes include arithmetic, being a girl, and stress. Her favorite foods are plain stick pretzels and raw mammalian hearts.
Dave Mazzetia Dave Mazzetia- Public Relations
Ever heard of Orderville, Utah?  Don’t worry, most people haven’t.  Orderville is Dave’s hometown.  It’s right on the other side of Zion National Park, where Dave spends most of his free time hiking around in the awesome canyons and sights that Zion has to offer.  Dave spent two years at a service for his church with the best outdoors people known to human kind – Germans!  When Dave isn’t hiking, camping, backpacking, climbing, or stuck in a canyon somewhere in the boonies, he’s chillin’ with his family and friends or lounging in a hammock with a great classic.
