New Policy from the USPS Regarding International Mail

Effective May 21, 2012, the Postal Service will not be able to accept outbound international mail pieces bearing handwritten or typewritten customs declarations except at retail service counters at a Post Office. This restriction also applies to mail destined to APO, FPO and DPO locations.  International mail pieces bearing customs declarations that were completed and submitted online (e.g., using Click-N-Ship, Click-N-Ship for Business, Global Shipping Solutions, an authorized PC Postage vendor, or the USPS Web Tools system) may be deposited in a mailbox or collection box, picked up by a carrier, or taken to a Postal Service retail counter, Contract Postal Unit (CPU), Approved Shipper, or any other business that accepts outbound international mail on behalf of the USPS.

Lost & Found Training for SUU Campus Staff/Faculty

This will be a class that will focus on Lost & Found.  Specifically we will focus on what to do if you lose or find an item and what happens to the different items once we have them.  There will be a Q & A concerning any of the new USPS rate changes and bulk mailings.  If you have any specific topics you would like covered, e-mail those to trudywidup@suu.edu.

Postal Service Adjusts Mailing Services Prices for 2012

It will now cost just a penny more to mail letters to any location in the United States, the first price change for First-Class Mail stamps (Forever stamps) in more than two and a half years.  The new 45-cent price for Forever stamps is among price changes filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission.

Highlights of the new single-piece First-Class Mail pricing, effective January 22, 2012, include:

  • Letters (1 oz.) - 1-cent increase to 45 cents
  • Letters additional ounces - unchanged at 20 cents
  • Postcards - 3-cent increase to 32 cents
  • Letters to Canada or Mexico (1 oz.) - 5-cent increase to 85 cents
  • Letters to other international destinations - 7-cent increase to $1.05

Prices also will change for other mailing services, including Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services and Extra Services.
