Postal Rate Changes

DECISION OF THE GOVERNORS OF THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE ON THE OPINION AND RECOMMENDED DECISION OF THE POSTAL REGULATORY COMMISSION ON CHANGES IN POSTAL RATES AND FEES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

The final decision was reached March 19, 2007 and will be “allowed under protest” while the Postal Rate Commission reconsiders three issues.  This will not delay the implementation.

The implementation date is MAY 14, 2007.  This is moved back a week from the original May 6th date.  The Postal Service is postponing the increase on Periodicals (newspaper and magazines) until July 15, 2007 to allow time for the publishing industry to update computer software and adjust to the complexity of the PRC-recommended rate structure for periodicals.

The overall increase amounts to 7.6%.  Many of the different classes of mail have much higher increases, some as much as 40%.

The Shape Based Pricing (SBP) was approved.  In the past, all postage was determined by the weight of a piece of mail.  SBP means that the weight, shape and size will all be factors in determining the postage.

There is an incredible amount of regulation changes that are also being implemented with this Rate Case.  Be sure to stop in and see us PRIOR to a large mailing so we can assist with ideas on how you may be able to keep costs down.
