Graduation Headquarters
A Letter to 2009 Prospective Graduates

Early Fall Semester 2008

I know it may seem early to be making plans for graduation, but we are quickly approaching one very important deadline for all students planning to graduate on May 2, 2009.

All students who hope to graduate this spring must apply for graduation now. The application and $15 graduation fee must be turned in, with a number of signatures, by November 1, 2008.  To properly complete the application, you need to collect signatures from your advisor, your department chair and your dean.

Although it may seem like a nuisance, this early date is designed to help you.  If you get your application turned in by this deadline, you will give the Registrar’s Office time to review your transcripts before your final semester starts.  So, if you do still need a class(es) to meet requirements you are not currently aware of, you will still have time to sign up for and complete said class(es) in time for graduation.

You can pick up a graduation application at the Registrar’s Office for a bachelor’s degree. If you are going to receive an AAS or master’s degree, you should get the application from the advisor in your college or school. If you’re receiving an AS/AA, you should pick up a graduation application in the Student Success Center.

If you’re not sure what kind of degree you should be receiving, please speak with your academic advisor in your college or to someone in the Student Success Center as soon as possible.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding important information for SUU graduates on the web.  Many of the questions that will arise for you about commencement can likely be answered by going to the Graduation Information Headquarters at www.suu.edu/graduation. In the meantime, please see your academic advisor and/or the Registrar’s Office for assistance with this first step towards a spring graduation.

Please remember: filling out the graduation application is your responsibility and is necessary to graduate.  Please don’t delay.

Sincerely,

Dean O’Driscoll
Commencement Chair
