The purpose of the Sharwan Smith Center is to provide a gathering place for all members of the Southern Utah University campus including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. The focus of the Center is to provide an opportunity for students and others to socialize, relax, spend time learning, recreate and provide services to assist in their learning process. The Smith Center's mission is to contribute to Southern Utah University's overall educational pursuits.

The goal of the Sharwan Smith Center is to provide a safe, secure place where a wide array of programs and services can be offered equitably to the campus community. It is essential that all programs and services be offered in a fiscally responsible manner. The policies and procedures provided in this outline guide the management of the Center and are available to assist the community in understanding the Center's operation and to help them fully utilize its programs, facilities and services. All policies are developed by the Center's staff with the input and assistance of the Center's Advisory Board. Exceptions to these policies and procedures may be made by Director of Activities and his/her designee as needed with appropriate consultation with the Center's Advisory Board when possible.
