Computer Literacy Test-Out Option

Computer Literacy is one of the General Education core courses required at SUU. However, the option of testing out of this required course is available for those students who believe they possess an adequate background in the Computer Fundamentals, Microsoft Suite applications, and Internet.

The test is comprised of five sections:

  1. Computing Fundamentals
    General knowledge of computers including windows environment, hardware, software, and operating system (interactive test).
  2. Key Applications: Word Processing & Spreadsheet
    Working knowledge of Word processing (MS Word) and Spreadsheet (Excel) applications (interactive test).
  3. Key Applications: Database Management
    Working knowledge of Database Management (Access) application (written test).
  4. Key Applications: Power point Presentation
    Working knowledge of Presentation (Power Point) application (written test).
  5. Living Online
    Knowledge of Networks and Internet including E-mail and use of Search Engines, and the Impact of Computing and Internet on Society (interactive test).

The test can take up to 4-5 hours depending on student progress.

Students earning unacceptable score in any of the five components of this test will have to take the required course.

Successful completion of all five components will earn a “P” which will satisfy the Computer Literacy requirement for the General Education.

Requirements
  • Student should NOT be registered for the Computer Literacy course.
  • Receipt of $70 nonrefundable fee payable at the Cashiers Office.
  • The test will be conducted bimonthly during the semesters and more frequently prior to the beginning of fall semester .
