Student Support Center at SUU – A Place to Belong

Attending SUU offers exciting new challenges and new situations, especially for students who are the first in their family to attend college. There are many adjustments that will take place in the first weeks and months of freshman year. The staff members in the Student Support Center offer a variety of services to help smooth the transition. Program services include:

• Developmental math classes of 20 students or fewer
• Math assessment, placement, and tutoring
• Academic advisement for all general education
• Supplemental financial aid resources

Most importantly, staff members in the Student Support Center pride themselves on their welcoming and caring attitude. No appointments are necessary and students are given the time and attention they need to resolve problems and make decisions.

Eligibility Criteria

Student Support Services is funded by a grant from the US Department of Education and service students who meet one of the following criteria:

• First-generation in college (neither parent has a Bachelor’s degree)
• Students who have lower family incomes
• Student who use English as a second language and are permanent residents of the USA
• Student with a documented disability
