What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound is a successful, college based program for qualifying high school students. It provides vigorous academic instruction, tutoring, and counseling to prepare the students for a

successful college education. Funded by the Student Services Division of the  United States Department of Education,  Upward Bound began as a pilot program in 1965, and came to

Southern Utah University in 1968.

In addition to tutoring, counseling, and academic instruction, this program also provides valuable information about financial aid, scholarships, federal grants, and college applications. Our

primary goal at Southern Utah University Upward Bound is to successfully prepare and motivate our students to enter college and obtain a four year degree, and to enjoy the journey as they

progress in high school.
