STAB stands for STudent Activities Board. STAB is the branch of the student governing body that plans and carries out the activities on campus. This branch’s leader is the VP of Activities, who is directly under the President. This branch of government is made up of appointed members, meaning that they did not have to be voted into office and are chosen by the VP. The appointed positions vary from year to year but follow basically the same format as the preceding year. As a part of STAB one is required to be at all meetings (once a week), schedule and attend 5 office hours a week, help plan, carry out, and clean up ALL activities put on by STAB, attend Summit meetings, and participate in apartment walks. Members of STAB go through several training sessions in order to prepare for many different aspects of the job, such as: how to put on a major activity, such as the HOWL; how to be a part of a concert crew, how to associate with performers and entertainers, how to be a leader, and how to make an activity successful.
The biggest perk of being on STAB is that is it fun! As a member of STAB you get to be a part of all the activities on campus, meet entertainers and performers, get into activities for free, meet a lot of new and exciting people, forge lasting friendships, be on a first name basis with most the staff of the university, have all the info. on upcoming events, and make awesome memories. Be aware that just because it is fun doesn’t mean that there is a lack in responsibility. All branches of government are responsible for some aspect of the students’ lives. As a part of STAB you are in a position that demands professionalism, responsibility and a good attitude.
To become a part of STAB, you need to contact the VP of Activities either by phone or email. This is listed in your student handbook. The VP will then give you information about the available positions and you can decide which one you are interested in.
STAB Mission Statement 2006
We will engage the students of Southern Utah University by planning effective activities, advertising to every ear, and executing the event in a way everyone, including ourselves, may enjoy. While taking these steps, we will replace personal agendas with the students as the reason for making activities new, exciting, and most importantly, memorable.
STAB meetings are held on Thursdays from 2:30-4:00pm in the SUUSA Conference Room.
