Bill 011-09 Bowling for Chili
SB 011-09
Bowling for Chili
Sponsored By: Senator Larsen- PVA
Co-Sponsored By: Senator Cook- PVA
Be it appropriated by a quorum of the Senate of the Southern Utah University Student
Association that $175.00 be allocated to the Southern Utah University Ceramics Guild in order to provide food for their ‘Chili Bowl Sale’ fundraising event.
Whereas: The Ceramics Guild is a club and as the SUUSA Funding Philosophy states; ‘chartered clubs approaching Senate for funds shall first be directed to the Clubs and Student Involvement Assembly,’ which has taken place, and;
Whereas: The Assembly cannot fund food, and;
Whereas: the Ceramics Club has directed their request for supplemental funding to the SUUSA Senate with the approval of Involvement Vice President Atkinson, and;
Whereas: this money will pay for chili and corn chowder from food services, to be sold in bowls which members of the guild have designed and crafted, and;
Whereas: the funds raised from this sale will go towards providing guild members the opportunity to attend the National Ceramic Education Conference (NCECA) in Phoenix Arizona;
Whereas: the Ceramic Guild has achieved marked success during this fundraiser in the past, and;
Whereas: the sale will be held Wednesday October 22 and 23 from 9:00am to 4:00pm in the Sharwan Smith Center hallway and be available to all SUU Students.
Therefore let it be enacted that $175.00 be allocated to the SUU Ceramics Guild.

Who is actually making the chili? Is the main point of the event to sell the works of the Ceramic Guild?
Food Services is providing the Chili. And yes the main point is to sell their work so that they can raise funds to attend conferences. As I see it, we are investing a little now and are going to get a big return on our investment when we don't need to supply a greater amount for conference attendance in the future.
