Was the call for executive session approved by the Senate? Also, what was the nature of what was discussed in the session? I believe these are things you're required to say under state law.
Actually if you read the law it is an open meeting unless we talk about personnel issues. Which we did, but oh wait, no one ever wants to come to those meetings so we do not record them because evidently no one cares about them. So, Anonymous if you want to "man up" to your comments give me your name and I will let you know.
Actually Mr. Strange, if you read the law, "a closed meeting may be held for the following purposes, any of which are limited to discussion about 1) the character/professional competence/health of a person; 2) strategies for collective bargaining; 3) pending or imminent litigation; 4) the price of real property; 5) security personnel or devices; or, 6) criminal misconduct allegations." There are more possible reasons than just personnel issues.
Also, regardless of your obviously poor opinion of SUU students who you serve, it doesn't matter if you think "no one cares about them," a meeting may be closed only if: "1) it is within one of the listed strict exemptions; 2) at the prior open meeting for which proper notice was given, two-thirds of the members of the public body present voted for a closed meeting, if a quorum was present; 3) the reasons for the closed meeting are put into the minutes; and 4) the members’ votes and names are listed." (emphasis added)
Additionally, why can't our elected student representatives reply civilly and maturely to a comment (even if it is anonymous) rather than ridiculing it and refusing to really answer?
Chris Klyde
p.s. Nothing in the law requires a body to hold a closed meeting, even if it's about personnel issues.
