United States Institute of Theater Technology Conference
SB 038-09*
Comments:
Investigative Findings:
In regards to the conference being the most 'prestigious' that is a statement of personal opinion as a technical direction student studying theater technology. In my experience it is the most prestigious conference for technical theater in the U.S. It culminates in an international event called the Prague Quadrennial, which is only held every four years. For information on both, please see their websites:

I also want to add that only a few weeks ago we sent the theater students to the KC/ACTF.

I want to show my support for this bill. I am a technical theatre major and attended this conference last year thanks to the senate's support. I will not be attending this year but strongly urge you to pass this bill. It is a great opportunity. I learned so much from the classes I was able to attend. It also is a great opportunity to find employment and look into grad schools.

I am a student who is planning on attending USITT this year and would like to clarify some questions that I have heard over the past couple of days regarding this bill.
One is: What establishes USITT as a prestigious conference for technical theater students to attend?
Answer: It is hard to be able to give details as to why this conference is more "prestigious" than others because there is no other conference like this for the field of technical theater. USITT is the only conference in the United States that "connects performing arts design and technology communities to ensure a vibrant dialogue among practitioners, educators, and students." http://www.usitt.org/structure/Mission.html
My second comment is in response to Senator Gunn's statement “only a few weeks ago we sent the theater students to the KC/ACTF”. Yes, the senate did provide funds to help support mainly acting students to attend this year’s KCACTF in California and those students are very thankful for the contribution they received. However, USITT is just as instrumental in continuing the education and careers of Technical Theater students as KCACTF is in continuing the same for performing theater students. This is all the more reason for the senate to support SUU student’s attendance of USITT just as they supported students attending KCACTF.
