Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in underrepresented world regions critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Boren Scholarship Eligibility – Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens at the time of application; Must apply to a study abroad program that meets home institution standards in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, USA, or New Zealand; Boren Fellowship Eligibility – Graduate students who are U.S. citizens at the time of application; Planning an overseas program that meets home institution standards in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, USA, or New Zealand.
