Award for Excellence in Inclusion and Diversity

Southern Utah University’s Award for Excellence in Inclusion and Diversity celebrates exemplar individuals or groups who are working collaboratively to build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable climate on campus. Awards will be made by nomination of a faculty or staff member, unit, or department. Nominations should clearly demonstrate how the individual or group has led an effort, initiative, or project to build greater diversity, inclusion, and equity related to sex, gender identity or expression, race, ethnicity, disability, socioeconomic status, age, political affiliation, religion, philosophy, or sexual orientation. Projects should demonstrate a positive and collaborative approach to achieving this goal. Examples of initiatives or projects eligible for this award include:

  • Innovative recruitment programs that attract faculty, staff and/or students who enhance diversity at Southern Utah University;
  • Exceptional mentoring programs for faculty and/or students whose background, experience, and interests contribute to the diversity of SUU;
  • Effective advancement opportunities for underrepresented members of the faculty or staff;
  • Activities that build diversity and equality within the faculty community of a school, unit, or department.

Three awards will be made each year: Outstanding Educator for Inclusion and Diversity ($1,500), Distinguished Faculty for Inclusion and Diversity ($750), Distinguished Staff for Inclusion and Diversity ($750). Staff and faculty of all ranks, departments, or programs are eligible for nomination, as are joint nominations for initiatives that involve two or more faculty or staff members, as well as entire units or departments. In the event of a joint nomination award, the award funds will be split evenly between the awardees. Self-nominations are not permitted.
