Homecoming 2010 - True to SUU - is nearly here (October 15-16) and we are excited to welcome you, and other alumni and friends of Southern Utah University, back to campus. The schedule to the left will provide you with information to help plan your weekend. Just click on each calendar item to learn more.
Remember to start off Homecoming Saturday with the SUUper Sorrel 5K Run/Walk. The Coal Creek Trail is fantastic and the beautiful autumn colors will make the 5K even more enjoyable. Online registration is now open. 
Another tradition you won't want to miss on Saturday is the annual Homecoming Alumni Brunch to be held in the Gilbert Great Hall at 10 a.m. After the Alumni Brunch is the parade, soccer match, football game, alumni variety show, reunions and plenty of time to catch-up with friends. Homecoming Alumni Brunch
Homecoming - True To SUUWe invite you to attend the Homecoming Brunch on Saturday, October 16, in the Gilbert Great Hall as we celebrate our common association as alumni and friends of Southern Utah University.
Beginning at 9 a.m., seldom seen University artifacts such as Old Sorrel's Hobbles,the Rivalry Axe, the Leadership Spoon and many others will be on display.  
At 10 a.m. brunch will be served, followed by a program that will recognize our four alumni award recipients, as well as members of the Class of 1960 and 1985 who are celebrating 50-years and 25-years respectively since their graduation from SUU. A dvd presentation will highlight traditions that bind together all generations of SUU alumni and the Homecoming Brunch will conclude with remarks from SUU President Michael T. Benson.

Homecoming Alumni Award Recipients
The SUU Alumni Association is honored to recognize Larry Ellertson ('72), Justin Harding ('00), Julie Stuart Castle ('92) and David Nakken ('85) as the 2010 Homecoming Award Recipients. All four will be recognized at a brunch on Saturday, October 16, at 10 a.m. in the Gilbert Great Hall.
Larry Ellertson, 2010 Outstanding Alumnus Award RecipientLarry Ellertson has fashioned an enviable career in business as well as public service. A quarter-century of work with Utah Power and Light culminated in his tenure as general business manager before his retirement in 2001. In 1996 he was elected Mayor of Lindon City serving there until 2005 when he was elected to the Utah County Commission, which he now chairs.
Justin Harding, 2010 Young Alumnus Award RecipientJustin Harding could well be the embodiment of the success of SUU's political science internship program. He first went to Capital Hill in 1999 as an intern and was later hired full time by Congressman Jim Hansen as a legislative assistant. After six successful years with Congressman Rob Bishop, he now serves as chief of staff for Utah Congressman Jason Chafetz.
Julie Castle, 2010 Distinguished Service Award RecipientJulie Stuart Castle is an influential member of the SUU campus community having served as student body president, member of the School Relations staff, director of the Governor's Honors Academy and member of the SUU National Alumni Board. Currently she is the director of community programs and services for the world-renowned Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.
David Nakken, 2010 Distinguished Service Award RecipientDavid Nakken is a lifelong friend of SUU andthe general manager of Parkway Motors in Cedar City, a thriving family business founded in 1969. He has led his company to varied methods of support of the University through sponsorships of athletics and of the Utah Summer Games and has personally provided many resources for the advancement of SUU.

Homecoming 5K - Register Now!
SUUper Sorrel 5K Run & WalkHomecoming Saturday begins with the SUUPer Sorrel 5K at 8 a.m. along Cedar City's beautiful Coal Creek Trail. The 5K begins at the Cedar City Baseball Field Trail Head (200 North & 200 East), goes 2.5 kilometers up the canyon, turns around and ends back at the baseball fields. 
Registration fee prior to the day of the race is $10 for students and $15 for non-students. Check-in that Saturday begins at 7 a.m.
