Founders Celebration 2011

Join us in celebrating Southern Utah University's 114th birthday during the annual Founders Celebration Banquet on Wednesday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Gilbert Great Hall. Tickets can be purchased by calling Bryan Allen at 435-865-8285.


Being inducted into the Hall of Honor with portrait unveilings are Warren Bulloch and Ken Benson. Distinguished Service Awards will be presented to Mary MacDonald and Lois Bulloch.


Warren Bulloch is a 1914 alumnus and was a prominent businessman and civic leader. He was the first chairman of the board of trustees, was a long-time member of the state board of regents and championed this institution's four-year status.


Ken Benson graduated from SUU in 1955 and served as one of the first directors of the Upward Bound program. He went on to serve as director of student activities for 14 years and was known as a student's administrator because of his compassion for students. 


Mary MacDonald graduated from SUU in 1938 and has always been an advocate for the arts and the University. She taught ceramics and three-dimensional design at SUU and was a favorite among her students.


Lois Bulloch is a 1959 alumnus and served SUU for 18 years as the administrative assistant in Student Services. Her service has extended to the community through terms on the Enoch City Council, Iron County Commission and numerous other boards.



Thunderbird Night at the Bees
SUU BirdheadEnjoy a night out on us at the Salt Lake Bees home opener on Thursday, April 7 at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Tickets for the evening are FREE and include hot dogs and hamburgers on the Party Patio at 5:30 p.m. with the opening pitch at 6:35 p.m.
Each SUU alumni household can reserve up to 4 FREE TICKETS in sections 113 and 114 by emailing us or calling 435-586-7777. March 31 is the final day to RSVP but don't wait because tickets will go fast!


Shauna Mendini Take Center Stage as Dean for Performing & Visual Arts

Shauna MendiniSouthern Utah University is excited to officially announce Shauna Mendini as the new dean for the College of Performing and Visual Arts (PVA). Mendini has accepted this appointment after serving as interim dean of PVA since April of 2010.   


Her purview includes the departments of art and design, music, and theatre arts and dance; the arts administration graduate program; the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery; Acclamation and the SUU Ballroom Dance Company; and the college's collaborative efforts with the Utah Shakespeare Festival. All of the College's marketing, public relations and fundraising is coordinated through the Dean's Office as well.  


According to Provost Brad Cook, Mendini has "earned the respect of her colleagues and upper administration. She is an inspired and capable leader, and we look forward to the positive strides PVA will make under Dean Mendini's direction."
