SUU Tops U.S. News Best Regional University Rankings

The annual U.S. News & World Report college rankings have been released and once again Southern Utah University has graced its listing as one of the top universities in the West in its 2014 Best Colleges guidebook. This places SUU in the first tier of all universities in the West, which provide a full range of undergraduate majors and master's programs.

The "Best Colleges 2014: Western Division" is an honor that SUU has received time and time again and increasingly goes up in rank, and SUU Interim President Rich Kendell says this is proof for all SUU students, faculty, staff and community that the University gives excellence.

"This ranking is a yet another confirmation that we are doing so many things right. The University's mission is to give a quality education to students in a highly personalized manner, and receiving this ranking is added fodder to our knowledge that we are on the right track," said Kendell.

T-Bird Cadets Fight to the Top at Regional Competition

While the average college student's week is filled with studying, writing papers, completing projects and attending classes, Southern Utah University Army ROTC cadets' average week has even more requirements. On top of the usual academic requirements, they also have physical fitness sessions, leadership classes and field exercises.

And for these T-Birds, their hard work has proven effective when they placed first in the 5th Brigade Region Ranger Challenge Competition October 4, beating Brigham Young University, terminating its 10-year winning streak.

SUU Fulbright Specialist Enters Moroccan Territory

Dr. Jim McDonald, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, has made the great voyage to 'Ecole de Gouvernance et d'Economie (EGE Rabat) in Rabat, Morocco as a Fulbright Specialist to act as a consultant and live in the historic country for six weeks.

SUU's second Fulbright Specialist, McDonald is one of 400 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad this year through the Fulbright Specialist Program, housed within the United Stated Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

While in Morocco, McDonald described that he will act as the resident cultural anthropologist teaching Americanist anthropology, specifically comparing the culture of the Mayans in Guatemala (his area of expertise) to the Moroccan indigenous people, the Berbers.
