90 Second Business Pitch Competition Rules

Competition will be held Oct. 26th at 5pm

  • Competition is open to SUU students and teams led by an SUU student.
  • Submissions must be between 300 and 500 words, and should include:
    • Brief description of products and services
    • Growth potential
    • Estimated costs (and funding, if applicable)
    • Estimated revenue
    • Timeline to profitability
  • Applicants may enter individually or in groups, but only one entry per person. No person may participate in the presentation of more than one idea.
  • Contestants must be available on October 26th at 5:00 PM to participate in person.
  • Summaries will be submitted via email to entrepreneur@suu.edu before October 19th at 5:00 PM.
  • Sponsors are not responsible misdirected entries.
  • Applicants will be notified by October 22nd, 2018, if they will be participating in the 90 second competition.
  • Contestants can have props or handouts but must be able to set up additional materials for their presentation in one minute or less.
  • Each team or contestant may have 2 slides with no video or animations. Those chosen to participate in the competition will receive further instructions.
  • Contestants will have approximately 90 seconds to pitch.
  • Judges may ask each contestant/team questions
  • While points awarded will be at the discretion of individual judges, the judging criteria will be as follows:
    • Quality of the idea
    • Good thought and modeling
    • Probability of success
    • Presentation
  • In the event of a numerical tie, judges will confer to decide the winner.
  • Certificates will be presented at the end of the competition.
  • Checks will be awarded by November 2nd
  • SUU Director of Entrepreneurship reserves the right to change rules as necessary.
  • SUU assumes all participants and spectators in this contest agree to implied non-disclosure. Proprietary concepts and intellectual property may be protected by a provisional patent or copyright, should the contestant desire. Contestants in this contest will not be penalized for withholding key concepts or intellectual property associated with their business idea.
