Beginner Birdwatching

Learn how to identify some of nearly 300 local bird species by sight and sound in this fun, new beginning birdwatching class. Find out what field marks to look for to recognize sounds and identify common bird families.

This three-week class first meets on Friday, September 6 from 6:00-7:00 pm at SUU. Then class meets for three consecutive Saturdays from 8:00-10:00 am for bird watching field trips, locations TBD. All supplies are provided. Transportation is not provided during field trips.

Registration deadline is September 5.

Instructor Bio

Rachel Bolus has been the ornithology professor at SUU since 2016. She has been involved with bird research since 1999 and is passionate about teaching people about birds. Rachel earned a Ph.D in organismic and evolutionary biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
