Beginner Chinese

Learn basic communication in the Chinese language including, how to exchange greetings, how to introduce yourself and other conversation skills in this eight-week course.

This class is also great for parents and caregivers of dual immersion students. Learn how to communicate with your student’s teachers, help with your student’s homework and incorporate Chinese culture at home.

In this course you will learn:

  • Pinyin, the Chinese phonetic system
  • How to exchange greetings
  • How to introduce yourself, your family and friends
  • How to ask friends out for dinner on special days
  • How to talk about hobbies
  • Chinese cultural customs

*This eight-week course meets Mondays from 6:00-7:30 pm. Registration deadline is October 14.

Instructor: Dr. Mai Huang

Instructor Bio

Dr. May Huang is a visiting professor at SUU from the Beijing Language and Culture University in Beijing, China, which is a renowned university for Chinese language and culture teaching. Dr. Huang has taught Chinese for over ten years and her research focuses on linguistics and applied linguistics, especially Chinese language teaching. Besides language teaching, she also did a lot work and research associated with Chinese teaching, such as overseas Chinese teacher trainings. She also published two books and many journals on Chinese language studies. In 2010, she was awarded the “Beijing Brilliant Youth Talents.”
