Admission Requirements for the online Master of Cyber Security and Information Assurance

 

GRE test score: The GRE score requirement minimum is 300 and should be sent directly to
Southern Utah University (SUU Code: 003678). The GRE/GMAT may be waived for applicants
with the following:

A well-qualified Cyber Security candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. During the application process, be prepared to submit official transcripts from each college or university attended. Official transcripts must be mailed or emailed directly from the granting institution(s) to:

Applicants who have graduated from SUU do not need to submit a transcript.

Applicants with an IS/CS/CYBER undergraduate degree:

    • GPA of 3.30 or greater
      • No GRE required 
      • No Foundation course required 
    • GPA of 3.0-3.29
      • No GRE required 
      • Foundation to Cyber Security course required with a B grade or test out with a B grade 
      • Must have minimum two years of professional work experience

 

Applicants with no IS/CS/CYBER undergraduate degree:

    • GPA of 3.3 or greater
      • No GRE required 
      • Foundation to Cyber Security course required with a B grade or test out with a B grade 
      • Must have minimum two years of professional work experience
    • GPA of 3.0-3.29 
      • *GRE needed or waiver (Director approval)
      • Foundation to Cyber Security course required with a B grade or test out with a B grade 
      • Must have minimum two years of professional work experience

 

*Applicants who do not meet the above waiver requirements may either submit an official GRE or GMAT score OR submit a 500-word essay explaining to the admissions committee why you should be admitted into the program without taking the exam. This essay will be submitted directly on the application form.  The admissions committee will take into account the complete application and will make the final decision if a GRE/GMAT waiver will be granted.

 

  1. Statement of Intent. In 500 words or less, describe your goals and expectations in pursuing this degree from Southern Utah University. Also discuss how this degree will aid in your professional development. Any additional information that is not stated in your resume will add value to your application (e.g. cyber security certificates). This statement will be submitted directly on the application form.
  2. References. You must enter the contact information for three references on your application form. Please select people who can provide details about your academic and/or professional work and ability to be successful in the CSIA program.
  3. Application Fee. A $60 non-refundable application fee must be paid by credit card in the online application form with the submission of your application.

  1. Resume. Submit a professional resume that includes employment history, academic accomplishments, certifications and highlights cybersecurity experience.

Certifications: Submit copies of security related certifications if applicable (e.g. CompTIA Security+; Certified Information Systems Security Professional-CISSP; Certified Ethical Hacker-CEH; Certified Cloud Security Professional- CCSP; and Certified Information Systems Auditor-CISA).
