Nursing Admission/Application ~ Pre-Licensure

The ATI TEAS® test is a required part of the pre-licensure admission package.

ATI TEAS test Dates for Fall 2020 applicants! All tests will be proctored in SCA 011 - 30 testers maximum per test date, on a first come-first serve basis. Friday, December 20, 2019, 9:30 AM; Tuesday, December 31, 2019, 10:00 AM; Monday, January 6, 2020, 9:30 AM; Friday, February 7, 2020, 11:00 AM; Tuesday, February 11, 2020, 1:00 PM . This is a 3 hour and 45 minute, four-option multiple-choice test with 170 total questions. Please come prepared for this length of time.

TEAS Study Guides are available for check out at the SUU Library Reserve Desk.

Register for the TEAS exam at www.atitesting.com, select the “Register for Teas” option and follow prompts to test at SUU on your desired day and time.   The cost of the TEAS® V exam is $77.00 (subject to change), payable at the time of the on-line registration.  Please bring your  ATI user name and password to your registered test date.

SUU Nursing Program admission is competitive and based on review of all application materials. To be eligible for Nursing Admission students must have:

  1. Completion of the required nursing admission exam (TEAS® by ATI, www.atitesting.com).
  2. Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  3. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all “Required Support Courses” with no course grade less than a C (C- is not acceptable).
  4. Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher (cumulative).**
  5. Completion of the Degree Requirements including General Education Core and Required Support Courses or a maximum of 18 pre-requisite credits left to complete (acceptance will be contingent on the successful completion of any remaining course requirements).

** As admission is competitive, the GPA of the applicants admitted is usually significantly higher than the minimum 3.0 required.

Once the above criteria have been met, you may submit the following information to the Department of Nursing Administrative Assistant, Vikki Robertson:

  1. Be sure to submit a complete and SIGNED application. Incomplete or unsigned applications will NOT be considered for admission to the Nursing Program!
  2. Complete, signed and dated Department of Nursing application (see cover letter).
  3. Receipt for the $20.00 Nursing Application Processing Fee.
  4. Include a copy of your TEAS® transcripts/results in the application packet (this includes tests taken at SUU).
  5. One (1) transcript (unofficial is acceptable) from EACH community college, college, and university you have attended (this includes SUU transcripts).
  6. Completed Bulleted List.
  7. Completed Essay's.
  8. Three (3) letters of recommendation in sealed, signed envelopes or noted that the evaluator is mailing recommendation. It is the application/student responsibility to make sure all three (3) recommendations are received by the Department of Nursing by the application deadline date.
  9. Completed Nursing Department Advisement Sheet signed by both SUU COSE Student Success Advisor and student/applicant.
  10. Signed Functional Requirement for Student Success Form.
  11. Non-SUU Students have submitted an SUU application to the Office of Admissions, with all required documentation and fees.

Pre-Licensure applications need to be submitted to the Department of Nursing ON or BEFORE 4:00 PM, February 14, 2020, to be considered for the Fall 2020 semester (Applications received after this deadline will NOT be considered for admission to the program). Applicants are notified of the committees’ decision by mail, mid to late October.

Please note: it is required that you meet with a SUU COSE Student Success Advisor prior to submitting your application. An appointment to complete the Nursing Application Advisement Sheet must be made no less than one week prior to the application deadline date.

Nursing Admission/Application ~ LPN/Paramedic to BSN

We look forward to working with you in completing your admissions application and offer the following guidelines to insure proper processing. 

Students just finishing their LPN or Paramedic program and anticipate direct entry into the LPN/Paramedic to BSN program, please use alternate application "Letter of Intent" available below: 

SUU Department of Nursing admission is competitive and based on review of all application materials.  Minimum requirements to apply for admission include the following:

  • Completed admission application packet for LPN/Paramedic to BSN option.
  • Completion of ALL pre-requisites; including Core Course Requirements, Knowledge Area Requirements, & Required Support Courses.1
  • Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all “Required Support Courses” with no course grade less than a C (C- is not acceptable).
  • Completed “Department of Nursing Advisement Sheet" signed by applicant and adviser. Consult with SUU, Walter Maxwell Gibson, College of Science and Engineering Student Success Advisor (as listed above) prior to submitting your application.
  • Copy of your LPN license or Paramedic Certificate by first Friday of September.
  • $20.00 non-refundable nursing application fee; checks made payable to “SUU Nursing (NURS2)” & Paid to SUU Cashiers Office, include copy of your receipt in application packet. (Use attached deposit form). Or pay on-line at link below and select “Application On-line Payment Option”, include a copy of your receipt in your application packet.

1Students who are finishing pre-requisite courses during the semester they apply to the Nursing Program will need to submit their final grade report to the Department of Nursing by 4:00 pm, on Friday of the week grades are posted.

Please note that meeting the above requirements does not guarantee admission. From the applicants who meet minimum requirements, those who appear to be best qualified will be admitted.   The goal of the Admissions and Advancement Committee is to select the most capable students. GPA and course grades are carefully scrutinized and are an important part of the application process.  The application package assists us in evaluating these qualities. We expect applicants to be courteous, respectful, truthful, and professional at all times.

Applications and all required documentation need to be submitted to the Department of Nursing ON or BEFORE 4:00PM, December 13, 2019, to be considered for the 2020 program (Applications postmarked/received after this deadline will NOT be considered for admission to the program). 

The selective admission process for LPN/Paramedic (BSN) students is once per year, Summer semester. Applicants are notified of the committee decision by mail, mid to late February. All decisions by the Nursing Admissions and Advancement Committee are final and may not be appealed.
